dvd stand newSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESA few months ago, I was searching craigslist for a small bookcase (I’m always looking for new storage), and I happened upon a DVD stand that met my needs. A couple of texts later and $10 to a person I’d never met before, and it was mine. It fits next to my book case perfectly and allows me to open and close my entertainment center without any problems. What I really love about it, is that I’m able to create shelve heights that meet my requirements. I’m able to fit odd sizes without any issues, and I was able to clear my bookcase of my books.

I love how simple finding storage on craigslist is. Nearly anything can be converted into toy storage, whether it be a dvd stand or a suitcase. When you put your mind to it, the possibilities are nearly endless.

One thing that I found to be useful was a tie hanger (or belts, or scarves). I’ve had this thing for years and have never had the heart to throw it out. I’ve used it for scarves, but it was never really effective, as I like my scarves extra long. It’s sad how long it took me to realize what it could be used for. I look at it ever day for years, and it finally hits me. Oh, well.

I know this is only effective for so long, as I’m always expanding my collection, but I will be able to hang future floggers and the like. In the mean time, I love how it looks, and having everything in one place. What really turned me on about it, was the fact that my Plunge Paddle fits perfectly onto the hook. It’s snug but it does fit, and that is what really sealed the deal, since the Plunge Paddle picks up lint like crazy.

dildo bags

Two things here, the basket and the bags. I found the basket at Target for 5 bucks, I think. I liked the design and the fact that I can use it on my bookcase, or in the shower. The bags I found in clearance at the drugstore around the corner. The bags are actually laundry bags that are machine washable and have no loose strings or lint. They came in three different sizes, but the smaller ones were more effective for my large dildos. I love being able to use bags that don’t leave lint on my toys, and don’t require me to struggle putting the toys into them. I do use plastic baggies for some of my toys, but I wish there were more options out there, like these bags.

I’m always on the hunt for new storage, and I do my best to share what I find. I hope that this helps you or someone find new, effective, low-cost, storage.

New Bags.

Did I mention I love organizing my toys?

It really is the little things that can make a huge difference in my mood. I was having a mediocre morning, shopping at Wal-mart for laundry detergent and Pull-Ups for my son, when my day took a cheerful turn. I just happened to see one of the make-up bags I use for my glass toys on the clearance aisle. I wasn’t going to get it, since I already have the color, but I figured maybe they got in something new. I went over to the make-up aisle and saw these bags. They were $4, and spacious without being obnoxiously large. I figured I’d put my Comet G Wand in one, and save the other for a toy in the future. Turns out my Ella fits in there perfectly. I usually keep Ella and the Comet G in a drawer organizer in my nightstand. Since I’m going to be getting some more vibes soon, they’ll be relocating. Perfect timing.

I love finding new things to store toys in.

BriefcaseThe Briefcase

I got the briefcase off of craigslist. I’d been looking for another wooden suitcase, and this thing popped up. I met a lady in front of a grocery store and it was mine for $15. I love craigslist for things like this. It’s not a sensible form of storage, in the long run. But, since my glass collection isn’t too large, it works out well. I don’t have to worry about them getting beaten up or jostled about.

Open briefcaseInside the Briefcase

Inside I keep all of my shipping receipts, measuring tape, rulers, wipes, and of course my storage bags and pouches. When I got the case, the inside was lifting, and I was half tempted to tear it all the way off. I did peel it back to where I’d have to really tear it apart, and cleaned off all of the old glue. Then I got some Gorilla Glue, and lathered it on. The bottle says to apply pressure, so I had a knife block, juice bottles, a 5lb thing of sugar, holding it down. It worked! It stank for awhile, but I sprayed it down with Febreeze.

Now on to my bags and pouches. To be honest I only use two actual toy pouches. One was sent to me when I bought my Randy from a friend, and the other I haven’t found a replacement yet. My zippered bags are either make up bags (pencil/brush bags) or pencil pouches. I found them either in the make up department or in the back to school bins. I got quite a few of them on clearance for 99c to $3. Unless a glass toy was a special shape, was extremely huge, or extremely expensive, I don’t think that I’d ever spend the extra dough on expensive storage bags. Not since my case doesn’t get jostled around. It sits in between the bookcase and the entertainment center. I’ll expand it as time goes on, but until then, it’s just the briefcase. There’s something very official about hearing the clicks of the locks when going to get a toy.

I don’t hide my toys, but I don’t keep them all around the house either. Between my son (who assumes everything  outside of our bedroom is his), and a pitbull who chews on everything, I keep things organized and out of the way. Where the bookcase is located, is in a corner of our bedroom next to the entertainment center. It’s nice because if I leave the door half open (not folded all of the way back), it blocks the top shelf. Making it so the casual passerby won’t see my brightly colored cocks, half bottle of Maximus water-based lube, or my modest porn collection (I say my porn collection because my husband prefers it online). Not that we have a lot of foot traffic in our room. It’s only when we give the dreaded “TOUR”. To the right of the book case is a metal brief case. This is where I store all of my glass toys. They’re in bags within the case, but I figured this was a nice way to keep them from getting jostled around when I’m getting to my silicone toys, batteries, etc. On the very top of the bookcase is where I keep massage oils and my drying rack. The drying rack is actually a cookie cooling sheet that I got for five bucks, and underneath it is a plastic zebra print place mat that I got at the 99cent store. It’s there to keep the water from warping the wood.

The books on the second shelf are all sex or fetish related, in some way or another. From a few penthouse mags, to artistic erotica. Some are books that I read once and despised, and there are others that are filled with fun facts that I use for toilet reading. Even though they take up precious storage room, I like knowing that they’re here rather than in my guest bedroom, mixed with my rather abundant library of classics and science fiction. That room does get foot traffic.

Now my favorite part. My bins. I am always, always on the look out for new storage. I just happened to be checking out the end caps of the home decor section of Target, and these bins caught my eye. My initial thought was “freshman dorm”. I’ve never been one for zebra print, but I took a chance on it. Turns out that when my toys are in it, you can’t discern what’s inside. I know exactly what’s in there, because I’m borderline OCD about organizing my toys. If you were to  glance at it, you’d see nothing but random glimpses of color.

The larger boxes hold my extremely long dildos, odd shaped dildos, dildos in bags, large vibrators, candle collection, rope and shears. In the smaller boxes, I have my butt plugs in baggies, small bullets, a shit ton of batteries (my camera has been eating them up lately) and colored mesh wraps that I use for mood lighting. I have extras of both sizes for the future. I’m glad that I bought with that in mind, because as always when I went back today, they were already gone. There are different designs that they always have in stock (the kids section has different colored stripes and rainbow hearts), and they always get funky designs around the new school year.

-Keep in mind that all of the dildos that are in the bin above are all made by Tantus Inc. They themselves store their silicone toys together. Not all silicone toys can be kept together. I would not mix brands in my boxes. Call me paranoid, but there you go.

The huge piece of glass that is next to the bookcase is actually for a table top, to avoid scratching the wood. Instead of using it for that, I used it to avoid having to sterilize every single toy after taking my collection pictures. I know this doesn’t have anything to do with my bookcase, but I’ve been sitting on these pics for over a month and I have been itching to share them. Sometimes you gotta purge the urge.
